This ethanol still is capable of producing either food grade ethanol, moonshine, or ethyl alcohol fuel. Questions are raised regarding the legality of ethyl alcohol as either an alternative fuel source or libation depending on the intentions of the still user. In either case, users are involved in a process of converting a low value commodity to higher value product, albeit on a limited scale.
This particular still is modeled after Appalachian copper stills, made by hand with traditional metal smithing techniques. The interchangeable distillation column allows the user to operate the still for either purpose. This set-up is more appropriate for the production of food grade ethanol, given the taller unpacked distillation column and propane tank as fuel source.
